Starter: BODMAS including putting brackets into a calculation to make it true

Tarisa cards matching activity 'Order of Operations' - Mathed Up website (will need to download Tarisa on to computer) ck
Main: using a calculator efficiently including fractions, powers and brackets

BIDMAS and Calculators CB

2 Starter: multiplying and dividing by a decimal (orally)

Main: multiplying decimals (long multiplication and putting the decimal point back in) and dividing by a decimal (by considering equivalent fractions)

Mymaths instructions CB: Answer the questions on the slides in your book. Check your answers online and mark them. Show your method clearly. If the questions are easy just complete a few of each type.
Mymaths mutiplying a decimal by a whole number
Mymaths multiplying a decimal by a decimal

Dividing by a decimal CB
Domino card activity - dividing by decimals - kept in US maths office

Plenary: use equivalent calculations e.g. use 23 x 0.46 = 10.58 to work out 2.3 x 46

Equivalent Calculations CB

3 Starter: rounding to a number of decimal places or significant figures

mymaths rounding instructions cb

Main: estimation by rounding to 1sf first – need practise where you end up dividing by a decimal

Dividing by a decimal CB

4
Starter: Finding upper and lower bounds

Main: using upper/lower limits in calculations

Plenary: go through exceptions to the rule e.g. discrete data or age e.g. what is the minimum age for a girl who is 15 years old – answer 15 years and 0 days

Mymaths instructions CB: answer questions online but complete questions from slide 3 from 'upper and lower bounds 2' into your exercise book for revision.  Check answers online.
Mymaths upper and lower bounds 1
Mymaths upper and lower bounds 2
Easiteach upper and lower bounds ck

5
Starter: understanding what ratio notation means, equivalent ratios, cancelling ratios, convert between ratios and fractions

Main: sharing a quantity in a ratio; finding the missing quantity given other quantities

E.g. 1. If a quantity of money is divided in the ratio 5:3 and the smaller share is £90, how much is the larger share? (non-calculator)E.g.2 If a quantity of money is divided in the ratio 5:3 and the smaller share is £34.50, how much was the original quantity? (calculator)

My maths instructions CB: Answer the questions on these slides online. Copy an example of dividing an amount into a ratio into your books e.g. share £720 in the ratio 2:3
Mymaths ratio introduction
Mymaths ratio dividing 1
Mymaths ratio dividing 2
Easiteach lesson - starter revising equivalent and simplifying ratios.  Main dividing in a given ratio. Aimed at set 4. ck
Diving ratio - domino jigsaw activity from Mathed Up

Plenary: Converting a ratio to the form 1:n

6
Starter: non-calculator questions involving speed, distance, time

Mymaths introduction to speed, distance, time calculations

Main: solving problems involving speed, distance, time with a focus on units and converting between hours and minutes – select worded questions on finding each of speed, distance and time

Plenary: understand density as a compound measure
