 6 What were the long term causes of World War One? - Map to show how Europe was different in 1914.Highlight the two alliances and compare for relative strengths and weaknesses.

Why did the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand lead to World War One? - The assassination itself and how such an event dragged other countries into the conflict.

Why was the war not over by Christmas? - Study the Schlieffen Plan (aims of it, why it failed).Concentrate on why stalemate developed.

Why did so many good men volunteer for the army? - Propaganda. Difference between reasons showing men wanted to join and reasons that imply men were pressurised to join

What was a conchie? - Why might people not want to fight in a war?  How were conscientious objectors treated during the war?

What was the purpose of war poetry and songs? - Study examples of poetry and songs to analyse their meanings and aims to see if the author was for or against the war. Look at possible reasons and motives for their views

How did WWI come to an end? - Study the key factors that brought the war to an end eg US entry into the war, Russian surrender, march offensive, German mutiny.

What was the Treaty of Versailles and how did the Germans feel about it? - Study the main terms of the treaty. Was the treaty justified or not and could the leaders have done better. What did the Germans think of the treaty and the terms which were hated the most.Cartoon analysis on the opinions about the treaty
