Welcome to the
History faculty pages of Bridgewater High School
History is always changing, although the past remains the same. The new
A level partly reflects this sentiment, although in many ways it is not
that radical a change: evolution rather than revolution is at work. Our
aims, too, have not changed substantially and the reasons that people
are drawn to History continue to exert their pull: human interest, the
understanding of ideas, the desire to interpret, and the wish to find
the reason why. In thus exploring the past we aim to introduce students
to different periods, many of which will be wholly unfamiliar. By
studying them, we aim to develop skills of research, analysis,
judgment, argument, and not least, writing.
The study of History covers a great variety of skills including
analysis, comprehension, presentation, research and organisational
skills which are valued by both universities and employers. However
whatever career you embark upon, your study of History will have
enhanced your understanding of a variety of aspects of life, politics,
religion, culture etc. broadening your horizons.
