Pupils undertake 4 design and make projects in the workshop.

Boardgame
The board game is a graphic products project requiring students to design a manufacture a board game along with its packaging.  There is a strong focus on CAD/CAM, with students designing their products using Techsoft 2D designer on a suite of laptops.

Automata

The automata project focuses on the use of simple mechanisms, within a standard pine/acrylic chassis.  The structure of the chassis provides student with the skills to manufacture products in a more modern, realistic manner.  There is opportunity for students to design a background using CAD to be manufactured on our new Laser cutter at upper school.  This is very much a product design project and is not intended to be a 'woodwork' exercise!!!!

Cyberpet/Doodlebug

The doodlebug provides students with an experience of programmable electronics, gaining
 experience using a range of components and materials.

Smart Materials

The smart materials project aims to provide student with up to date knowledge and understanding of modern day materials, which have some bizarre properties.  Students are required to think creatively in design products utilizing these materials, some of which have yet to have a commercial use!!!  The project aims to equip students this an understanding of future technologies.
