This event is for those teachers who are contemplating becoming head of department.  As well as giving practical advice on making an application and achieving success at interviews, it will enable delegates to look at the current role of the head of department in schools today and to consider the management skills that are required.

This fast paced, interactive event, led by an experienced & practicing OFSTED Inspector, is intended for senior, middle & aspiring managers who are responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching on a departmental or school basis.
 
 
What will the event cover?
 
Monitoring the quality of teaching and learning is an important issue if schools are going to share good practice in order to raise standards and as part of performance management.  Middle and senior managers require excellent lesson observation skills if they are to monitor the quality of teaching in a professional and supportive way.  This course will examine the key issues surrounding the monitoring of teaching and, using recorded video material, develop practical lesson observation skills.  It is intended for middle and senior managers in schools who are responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching on a departmental or school basis.    
 
What will be the outcomes of the event? 
On completion delegates should have:
 
R           An awareness of the key issues surrounding the monitoring of teaching in schools today
R           Knowledge of how to develop a framework for observing lessons in a positive and supportive way
R           An opportunity to develop practical lesson observation skills in order to monitor teaching successfully
R       An understanding of how to provide developmental feedback to colleagues
