DEVELOPING A MORE EFFECTIVE RESPONSE TO BULLYING AND RESPONDING TO WIDER ISSUES

Who will benefit?

This event is for staff in secondary schools who are concerned with reducing bullying and identifying a more effective response to wider issues.  It will support the career development of group tutors, pastoral care staff, teaching assistants, learning mentors, and staff from other agencies such as connexions and social services.

 

 

What will the event cover?

The DfES and reports from schools and the community have highlighted the increasing problem of bullying and the devastating consequences if we do not respond effectively. During the event delegates will:  

  • Consider how bullying manifests itself and the effects upon individuals
  • Examine practice that is consistent, systematic and effective
  • Improving skills in treating the cause, not merely the symptoms
  • Focusing on solutions … changing complaints into goals
  • Identifying strengths to reduce bullying
  • Looking at Restorative Approaches

John Morris is a freelance educational consultant with a national remit.  He has extensive experience within schools, colleges and the youth service.  He specializes in working with staff and pupils in schools to improve teaching and learning and realize potential   John was the lead consultant in an enquiry into bullying in a rural county secondary school in Wales and has written a number of articles on bullying and its long term effects.
